Prior to Installation
- The installation process is weather dependent, so initially a week
commencing date will be given and as this date draws nearer, we will give you a start day. Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond our control even this scheduled start day is subject to change
due to the weather, or interpretation of a weather forecast by ourselves.
- We would advise you to notify your neighbours (where applicable) of the work that
is to be undertaken prior to installation as the construction process is often noisy and dusty. Windows and doors should remain closed at all times.
- Any obstructions (i.e. garden furniture, personal items, vehicles, etc.) must be
removed prior to start date to avoid any delays and/or damage to your possessions.
- Access to the area to be installed will be limited during
installation.
Preparation
- The site needs to be prepared ready
to install the paving. The average installation will require a minimum of 125mm & a maximum of 225mm of material to be removed. Wherever possible, we will use plant and
machinery.
- New hardcore material will be used to
achieve a well compacted base.
- Any drainage requirements are dealt
with and all manhole covers & drainage channel's are installed. All new installments are checked with respect to these items to ensure that when the concrete is laid, the falls of the paving will
adequately direct water to the desired drainage location.
- New features and shuttering (if
required) are now installed to the specification of the contract agreed.
- Once the preparation has been completed as per the drawings,
and all shuttering has been installed, we will ask you to confirm that the layout of the prepared area is correct, before we install the paving.
- Subject to the weather (or
interpretation of a weather forecast by ourselves) we would hope to install the following day. Should there be a delay due to adverse weather, all sites are left neat and tidy, to ensure any
inconvenience is kept to a minimum.
Paving Installation
- We will arrive on site prior to concrete delivery.
- The concrete is unloaded as soon as possible. The concrete
is applied to the approximate pre-determined levels and to the required pre determined falls.
- The surface of the concrete will now be troweled using
various tools.
- After floating, the concrete is then
coloured with the chosen primary colour. This application is floated into the concrete.
- The chosen release agent is then
applied. This will be seen to impart a secondary ‘antique’, two tone effect to the surface of the paving, which will only be apparent when the paving has been cleaned.
- The concrete is then imprinted with
the agreed pattern.
- The site is cleared and restriction
warnings are now put in place.
- Responsibility for the area installed
is now passed to YOU the customer.
- Dependent on seasonal changes, we
will return to clean the installation and surrounding area(s). This process will vary between 24 & 48 hours after installation.
- Any public walkway repairs (if
required) are carried out at this point.
- Expansion joints will now be cut into
the installation. These are made at what we predict are the natural weak points. This will be indicated on the survey diagram, although, due to external factors beyond our control, which were not
evident at the point of survey, the final position/s of the expansion joints may have to be modified. This will be discussed as/when required. Expansion joint/s will be filled with a colour
co-ordinated silicone based sealant within the completion stage.
Completion
- The paving has now been left to dry. It must be thoroughly dry before
sealing. In high temperatures, the sealing can sometimes be undertaken the following day, but most usually take place 24-72 hours after in order for the paving to dry
thoroughly.
- The installation is then
completely cleared of any debris that may have rested within the drying out process.
- Any minor imperfections are
dealt with prior to sealing.
- Expansion joints are now
filled and smoothed.
- Two applications of sealant are required with a base and a final top coat. The top coat
contains an anti-slip agent.
- The installation is now
complete.
